UKBOTA Expands Management Team & Regional Network – 2026 Recruitment

Following a recent management meeting, UKBOTA is entering a new phase of development and growth.  As part of this progression, we are expanding both our Management Team and our Regional Representative network, creating new opportunities for members of the community to become directly involved in shaping the future of UKBOTA.

Management Team Opportunities

We are recruiting for the following Management Team roles:

*Communications & Outreach Manager (available from 1st May 2026)
*Awards & Events Developer (available from 1st May 2026)
*Reference Manager (available from 1st May 2026)

These roles form part of the core UKBOTA Management Team and will help guide the direction, visibility, development, and integrity of the programme going forward.

Each role carries defined responsibilities and will work collaboratively with the wider team to strengthen UKBOTA nationally.

Regional Representatives – Community Roles

In addition to the management positions, we are also recruiting eight Regional Representatives.

These are not management roles, but vital community-facing positions. Regional Representatives will:

* Promote UKBOTA within their area
* Act as a local point of contact
* Support rallies, club engagement, and activations
* Encourage participation and community involvement

This is an excellent opportunity for members who wish to contribute at a regional level and help grow UKBOTA locally.

UKBOTA – Communication & Outreach Manager

Volunteer Management Team Role
Available from 1st May 2026

UKBOTA (United Kingdom Bunkers On The Air) is expanding its management team and is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Communication & Outreach Manager to help grow and promote the programme across the amateur radio community with effect from the 1st May 2026.

Working closely with and being a formal part of UKBOTA management team, this role will focus on increasing awareness, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring a professional and consistent public presence at events and in the media.

Purpose of the Role

To develop and coordinate UKBOTA’s outreach, publicity, and promotional activities, ensuring strong engagement with radio clubs, rally organisers, and national bodies.

Key Responsibilities 

Event & Rally Presence

* Identify and target relevant amateur radio rallies and events for UKBOTA representation.
* Coordinate and organise UKBOTA presence at selected events.
* Hold and manage stock of presentation equipment (e.g. display materials, banners, stands).
* Maintain and monitor quantities of printed promotional media, ensuring adequate stock for rallies and exhibitions.
* Order stock as agreed and required through the Club treasurer to ensure the correct quantity balance.

Club & Community Outreach

* Proactively engage with amateur radio clubs to promote UKBOTA.
* Organise and coordinate club talks (via Zoom or other online platforms, as well as in-person where appropriate).
* Develop relationships with regional and national amateur radio groups.

Media & Communications

* Liaise with the RSGB regarding submissions to RadCom magazine.
* Coordinate GB3RS news announcements and other relevant broadcast opportunities.
* Assist in the preparation and distribution of press releases and promotional updates.

Content & Presentation Development

* Assist in the production and refinement of presentation packs and promotional materials.
* Work with the management team to ensure consistent branding and messaging.
* Contribute ideas for improving UKBOTA’s visibility and engagement across platforms.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

* Is enthusiastic about amateur radio and the aims of UKBOTA.
* Has good communication and organisational skills.
* Is confident liaising with clubs, rally organisers, and national bodies.
* Is comfortable using Zoom or similar online meeting platforms.
* Is proactive, reliable, and able to work independently as part of a small management team.

Experience in event coordination, public speaking, media liaison, or club leadership would be advantageous but is not essential. Full training will be given during the bedding in period.

Commitment

This is a volunteer management role. Time commitment will vary depending on the event calendar and media opportunities, but flexibility and good communication with the team are key.

The successful candidate will become a full member of the UKBOTA management team and will help shape the future direction and public profile of the programme.

UKBOTA – Awards & Events Developer

Volunteer Management Team Role
Available from 1st May 2026

UKBOTA (United Kingdom Bunkers On The Air) is expanding its management team and is seeking an imaginative and forward-thinking Awards & Events Developer to help shape the future of our awards programme and special events.

This role is separate from the current Awards Manager position. While the Awards Manager oversees the administration of awards, this role focuses on development, engagement, and innovation.

Working closely with the Communications & Outreach Manager and the Systems Manager, the successful candidate will help ensure that UKBOTA awards and events remain exciting, relevant, and widely supported within the amateur radio community.

Purpose of the Role

To monitor, evaluate, and develop UKBOTA awards and events, ensuring they remain engaging, well-promoted, and effectively implemented.

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring & Evaluation

* Monitor participation levels in existing awards and events.
* Gauge popularity and community engagement.
* Identify trends and opportunities for improvement.

Development & Innovation

* Develop enhancements to existing awards.
* Lead the concept and project management of new awards and special events.
* Introduce fresh ideas to maintain interest and encourage participation.

Collaboration & Publicity

* Work closely with the Communications & Outreach Manager to ensure timely publicity and maximum engagement for awards and events.
* Assist in planning launch timelines and promotional campaigns.

Design & Presentation

* Design new award certificates and supporting materials for events.
* A working knowledge of Canva would be beneficial, but training and support will be provided.
* Contribute creative ideas for visually appealing and professional presentation.

Systems Integration

* Liaise with the UKBOTA Systems Manager to ensure awards and events are correctly implemented within the scoring system.
* Ensure new awards are clearly defined, measurable, and technically achievable within the existing infrastructure.

Person Specification

We are looking for someone who:

* Has an interest in amateur radio and the aims of UKBOTA.
* Is creative and enjoys developing new ideas.
* Has good organisational and project coordination skills.
* Is able to work collaboratively within a small management team.
* Has an eye for presentation and detail.

Experience in event planning, design work, or award scheme development would be helpful but is not essential. As full training will be given during the bedding in period. Full tools will be made available to support the role.

UKBOTA – Reference Manager

Volunteer Management Team Role
Available from 1st May 2026

UKBOTA (United Kingdom Bunkers On The Air) is seeking a methodical and detail-oriented Reference Manager to oversee the collection, validation, and release of new UKBOTA references.

This is a critical role within the management team, responsible for maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and historical credibility of the UKBOTA reference database.

Working closely the Web Manager, and the Systems Manager, the successful candidate will ensure that all new references meet UKBOTA’s published criteria and are correctly geo-referenced and documented prior to release.

Purpose of the Role

To manage the submission, validation, and publication of UKBOTA references, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to scheme criteria.

Key Responsibilities

Collection & Community Engagement

* Receive and manage new reference submissions from the UKBOTA community.
* Communicate with submitters where clarification or additional evidence is required.

Evaluation & Validation

* Assess submissions against UKBOTA’s published eligibility criteria.
* Verify geographic coordinates and ensure accurate geo-referencing.
* Cross-check submissions using mapping and research tools.
* Ensure all references are unique and not duplications of existing entries.

Research & Documentation

* Research sites using historical records, mapping systems, and available archives.
* Assign appropriate names, types, and reference numbers to approved submissions.
* Ensure descriptions and classification are accurate and consistent.

Systems & Publication

* Liaise directly with the Web Manager and Systems Manager to ensure new references are correctly coded and published.
* Assist in maintaining structured and organised reference records.

Skills & Experience

Ideally, the successful candidate will have some familiarity with:

* Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
* Google Earth
* Gridfinder
* Mapping and coordinate validation tools

However, prior experience is not essential. Full training and appropriate tools will be provided.

More important are:

* Strong attention to detail
* A methodical and organised approach
* An interest in historical research
* The ability to work independently and make balanced, evidence-based decisions

Commitment

This is a volunteer management role, available from 1st May 2026.

The workload will vary depending on submission volumes, but consistency and good communication are key. The Reference Manager plays a central role in maintaining the quality and reputation of UKBOTA.

UKBOTA – Regional Representative

Volunteer Community Role

UKBOTA is continuing to grow, and we are now establishing a national network of Regional Representatives to help support, promote, and strengthen the programme across the United Kingdom.

We are inviting enthusiastic radio amateurs who are passionate about UKBOTA to apply for these new volunteer roles and become part of the UKBOTA Regional Forum.

Regional Representatives will act as the eyes, ears, and voice of UKBOTA within their area — supporting local activity, engaging with clubs and events, and helping to grow our vibrant community of activators and hunters.

Purpose of the Role

To represent and promote UKBOTA at a regional level, supporting community engagement and helping strengthen local participation in the programme.

Key Responsibilities

Represent UKBOTA Locally

* Serve as the recognised UKBOTA point of contact within your region.
* Liaise with rallies, clubs, and amateur radio events as a UKBOTA ambassador.
* Promote UKBOTA activities, special events, and opportunities to get involved.

Support the Community

* Encourage and assist new activators and hunters.
* Help clubs and individuals understand how to participate in UKBOTA.
* Build positive relationships with local amateur radio groups and societies.

Act as a Liaison

* Gather feedback, ideas, and suggestions from operators in your region.
* Provide insight into regional activity to the UKBOTA Management Team.
* Contribute to shaping future events and community initiatives.

Promote Growth & Engagement

* Encourage clubs to host UKBOTA-themed evenings or talks.
* Support regional meet-ups, multi-bunker days, and special events.
* Help raise awareness of the historical and technical value of bunker activations.

Light-Touch Administration

* Provide a short monthly update for inclusion in the UKBOTA newsletter.
* Maintain awareness of activity and engagement within your region.
* No heavy administration, no policing responsibilities, and no burdensome commitments.

Person Specification

You do not need to be an expert — we are looking for someone who is:

* Friendly, approachable, and community-minded
* Passionate about amateur radio and UKBOTA
* Comfortable engaging with clubs and fellow operators
* Reliable and able to represent UKBOTA positively
* Willing to commit a small amount of time each month

This is a volunteer, ambassadorial role designed to be enjoyable, rewarding, and sustainable.
