🌐 WWBOTA Definition
A bunker is a hardened defensive structure, often — but not exclusively — underground, built from the 19th century onwards to provide shelter, protection, or operational support for personnel, equipment, or defensive activities, including observation or deception and multi-use.
"The determination of whether a specific structure qualifies as a bunker is the responsibility of the relevant national scheme, allowing for historical and geographical variation within the spirit of the WWBOTA definition."
🏴 UKBOTA Definition
A fortified or hardened structure used in the 20th century for the purposes of positional defence, observation, or crisis management. Many bunkers are underground, but by no means all. Some structures may date earlier while having a significant role in the 20th century and are considered on the basis of that role.
◾ Pillbox Clusters
Pillboxes are relatively small structures, often sited in clusters around a specific installation or site. As a rule of thumb, if two or more pillboxes are within 500m they are combined and listed as a cluster.
